Moyosore Martins Exposed!
NEW YORK-BASED NIGERIAN ARTIST MOYOSORE MARTINS HEADS WEST FOR SOLO EXHIBIT AT LONG-SHARP GALLERY & BUTTER ART FAIR
Long-Sharp Gallery Announces Midwest Representation of Moyosore Martins
Indianapolis, Indiana (July 28, 2022) - Today, Long-Sharp Gallery announces the opening of New York-based, Nigerian artist, Móyòsóré Martins’ solo exhibition titled, Móyòsóré Martins: Seen, at Long-Sharp Gallery | Indianapolis (1 North Illinois Street, Suite A, Indianapolis IN 46204) and Long-Sharp Gallery | Virtual on 31 August 2022. The gallery also celebrates the official representation of Martins at Long-Sharp Gallery Indianapolis; one of Martins’ large-scale paintings, “Artist Block'', will simultaneously debut at BUTTER, an art fair dedicated to the exhibition of works by Black artists, opening for its second year over Labor Day weekend.
Here’s a look into Moyo’s innerworld of art.
Cultural and personal iconography narrate each painting in Móyòsóré Martins: Seen, the second solo exhibit for the New York-based Nigerian artist since he migrated to the US in 2015 to pursue his dreams as a professional artist. The show features fifteen powerful paintings in Martins’ heavily-layered, deconstructed, abstract, and figurative style.
In Móyòsóré Martins: Seen, eyes from his past, present, and future keep watch on the young artist reminding him of his responsibility to both his native land and the future.
“Móyòsóré Martins exalts the tradition of the Abstract Expressionist painters—the beginning. Figurative and conceptualist elements then take the stage. Hatching, hard-handed distress brings the work together in harmony and depth—Móyòsóré’s own total.”
